January Dividend Update

Febuary is almost here so it's time to report on my January dividend income!  January's dividend total was $238.88 which is up from the $213.12 that I made last quarter in October. I got a little help from WMT and PEP dividends slipping in to January instead of December.

In comparison, last years January's total was $184.27 which means my dividend's for the month have grown 29.6%. Not too shabby growth there, hopefully next January will see similar growth.

Recent Buy - Exxon (XOM)

Wow another purchase, that makes two this month after my Unilever buy. I had a standing order to purchase shares of XOM and it triggered my limit order the other day as the markets were tanking. I've had my eye on some energy stocks for some time as they have been taking a bit of a beating with oil dropping like a rock. I could have bought more Chevron as well but I'm fully invested in CVX right now. It is my largest holding and although I'd be averaging down I thought it might be a good idea to add some diversity and purchase Exxon instead.

I knew at the $90 mark XOM should be at a 3% yield and that's great for XOM which has an average 5 yr yield at 2.4% and has a 3yr dividend growth rate of 13.4% as well. Morningstar has set a $108 fair value target for Exxon. Exxon may continue to drop with oil so I may buy here and there if it falls. Stay tuned !

I purchased 14 shares of XOM at $90.00 for my initial position in the company.

Exxon Mobil Corporation is engaged in energy, involving exploration for, and production of, crude oil and natural gas, manufacture of petroleum products and transportation and sale of crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products.

Recent Buy - Unilever (UL)

It's that time again where I make my monthly stock purchase. This time around I chose Unilever (UL). I made my purchase on Monday morning when the markets were in a free fall after some oil companies were downgraded and this allowed me to get in under the $40 mark I was shooting for. I also had my eye on XOM but ultimately went with Unilever since I believe there will be continued weakness in oil through 2015 and I think I have time to get in a bit cheaper in the coming months.

I purchased 30 more shares of UL at $39.33 giving me a total of 56 shares now.

December Dividend Update

It's time to report on my December dividend income!  This month my dividend total was $213.07 which is down from the $227.94 that I made last quarter in September. This was not due to anything sinister like a dividend cut but merely some of the dividends I was expecting have moved in to January. The two culprits were PEP and WMT which will pay on Jan 5th. This would have been a record month had they fell in December. Instead it looks like January will be a solid month. Can't wait.

In comparison, last years December total was $162.21 so even with a lower total than I was expecting I still managed to increase my total dividend income by over 31% which isn't too shabby.

December 2014 Purchases
  • GlaksoSmithKline (GSK) - 29 shares @ $42.39
  • AT&T (T) - 36 shares @ $35.6

December Dividend Increases
  •  McDonalds (MCD) - From .81 to .85 ( a 4.9% increase )
  • Universal Health Trust (UHT) - From .63 to .635 ( a 0.8% increase )

December 2014 Dividend Income
  • Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) - $11.90
  • Chevron (CVX) - $57.78
  • Lorillard (LO) - $17.22

  • Reality Income (O) - $18.31
  • Avista (AVA) - $18.42
