October Dividend Update

It's time to report on my October dividend income. October along with Jan, Apr and July have always been my smallest months in terms of dividend income and this quarter is no different, however I made some purchases that would bring these months up a bit closer to my other months. Those two were Coke Cola (KO) and Piedmont Natural Gas (PNY) and they helped me bust through the $200 mark with ease. This months total was $213.12 which is quite a bit up from the $179.34 last quarter. This was partially due to Walmart's dividend falling in June rather than July. It's still a nice improvement over what would have been a sub $200 month even if Walmart's dividend fell in July. This was at 45% improvement over last year in October. Can't wait till next month !

October 2014 Purchases

  • Unilever (UL) - 26 shares @ $39.09

October 2014 Dividend Income
  • Coke Cola (KO) - $18.61
  • Glasko Smith Kline (GSK) - $14.91
  • Altria (MO) - $49.40
  • Piedmont natural Gas (PNY) - $41.60
  • Realty Income (O) - $18.31
  • Hatteras Financial Company (HTS) - $27.50
  • Sysco (SYY) - $19.14
  • Kraft (KRFT) - $23.65

Total Dividends For October: - $213.12

  1. Captain, another great month with the nice UL pickup and the fantastic year over year increase. Never a bad thing when your lowest month of a quarter blows through the $200 mark. Do we see $300 by the end of next year? I'm thinking so without any challenge at all!

    1. Ya, I think I was fortunate to get in on that nice dip after the earnings announcement and I'll be looking forward for more future dips. As far as hitting the $300 mark by the end of next year, I think that's a pretty ambitious goal unless I can add more than my usual $1000 per month. I'd be excited to see it though ! My next goal is $250 which shouldn't be too far away.

  4. Your chart speaks volumes about your dividend income progress. Keep up the good work. Happy to see some similar names above in my portfolio as well. Nice UL pick up too. I added some in October as well. Thanks for sharing your recent update. Look forward to your next.

    1. I saw several bloggers mention UL as a potential purchase in October. It's hard to ignore a monster like Unilever when it's 'on sale'.

Good job picking up Visa before it skyrocketed by the way.

  6. Great job Captain! $200+ is awesome and 45% YoY growth is fantastic. I like the UL buy too and that dividend chart looks great with the constant upward movement. Got to love that!

    1. Thanks PIP, it goes to show that even a little bit of investment can go a long way. My budget only allows me to invest about $1000 a month but I'm seeing nice results even at those levels. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Exactly, that's one reason I like to keep them balanced, also I just hate knowing I have a small dividend month coming up. Can't have that! :-)

    1. Thank you, I was wanting to make a purchase earlier than I did but I didn't have the money at the time which worked out for the best since the stock dropped after earnings. That allowed me to buy at an even lower price. Gotta love that.

  11. Great month Captain! I love seeing the steep slope of your chart trending upwards. Keep up the great work. I always have my eye on UL and I would like to one day add a position to the company. What was your thought process with the purchase?

  13. Excellent progress Captain! There's nothing "get rich quick" about dividend investing, but stick with it and your snowball will continue growing. My current level of dividend income seemed like a pipe dream when I got in the game six years ago. Now I'm reaching for new heights of dividend income, and I know I will get there as long as I stay focused and keep investing on a regular and consistent basis.
