August 2016 Dividend Income Update

It's time for my August dividend update! This month I earned $290.14 which was a small step backwards compared to last quarter and even last year where I earned $309.01 for the month of August. The difference is due to my sale of Realty Income in July and even though my purchase of Abbott Labs (ABT) helped offset those losses it just wasn't enough to keep me over that $300 mark, but I'll be back over that in no time!

This month featured one purchase of Flowers Foods and 8 different companies as well as a bond fund payed me dividends this month.

August Purchases
August Dividend Increases
  • General Mills (GIS) - From .46 to .48 (+4.3%)  Note: This is the 2nd raise in two quarters!
  • Clorox (CLX) - From .77 to .80 (+3.8%)
August Dividend Income
  • AT&T (T) - $108
  • WGL Holdings (WGL) - $32.18
  • General Mills (GIS) - $37.44
  • Clorox (CLX) - $15.20

  1. dude, $290.14 is still killing it. I'm at $33 this month (dividends only) and completely stoked. I'll likely be yelling from the rooftops when I hit the high $200's. Awesome job and remember a lot of people don't even earn that much.

    1. That's the spirit WS! It' won't take long for you to get there if you keep at it with regular contributions and the help of dividend growth. Just look at my chart and you can see I was well under the $100 mark when I started and now I'm averaging over $300.

  2. Nice month CD. Your dividend income may not be as high but your just better positioning your money to help you in the long term. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Right on, it was nice to get that debt off my back. Now I can focus that money elsewhere.

  3. I just love it when the same company does multiple dividend increases in a year! Congratulations. Although your dividend income in August dropped a bit, you have September to look forward to! Quarter-ending months usually are great!

    Take care and happy investing!

    1. It sure is! GIS hasn't done that for about 10 years as far as I can tell. September should be pretty sweet!

  4. Awesome stuff Captain. Even with your sale you still generated almost $300 which is great. I expect by November you've got a shot at being above that once again and hopefully for good.

    1. It could be, and I actually have my eye on a stock which pays in November. Just need the cash!

  5. Another solid showing for the month of August. Bringing in almost $300 passively is awesome. Nice to see a handful of names in common too. You have got a pretty solid portfolio and are in a great position for future payouts. Thanks for sharing.

  7. mmm I will have to check out GIS more if they are doing multiple increases. I like it also they are now removing unneeded stuff from their cereals.

    1. That's a trend I suspect we will continue to see as people grow more and more health conscious. Sounds good to me quite frankly.

  8. You are rocken it bro. Look at ATT. Getting a nice snowball rolling even with the decrease.

    1. Love me some ATT and I am tempted to add to my position but it's already full. VZ on the other hand I really would like to add as well and it has come down from the mid 50's. Hopefully it heads below $50 soon.

  9. That's a fantastic level of passive income from dividends alone, especially considering that an ambitious individual like yourself likely has multiple sources of passive income.

I also really appreciate the chart of passive income growth over time.

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Honestly this is my only source of passive income for now. I may get in to fixed income if rates rise considerably. Well see.

  10. Your quarterly moving average chart is still my favorite. Anything over $200 is a great month and it will only get bigger. I cannot WAIT for SEP and DEC this year. Hoping to really see some big momentum! Keep it up,

Damn! Almost to "300"! How was collecting 2 more shares with AT&T's dividend? Congrats!

    1. Well I don't drip any of my income, I prefer to selectively add money where I see value but ya that would be like getting 2 more shares! Exactly. Thanks

  12. Some fantastic results there Captain! It kinda looks like within the next few months you should cross that $300 milestone for good?

    1. It all depends if I have the money for a purchase here soon. I'm a bit broke after some car repair bills so I haven't been able to fund my brokerage account. Well see. :-)

  13. One thing I like about dividend stocks is that the income is passive. One can invest and then concentrate on other things
