March Dividend Update

It's time for my March dividend update! My March dividend total was $252.03 which is up 18.3% from the $213.07 that I made last quarter in December.

In comparison, last years March total was $173.79 which means my dividend's for the month have grown 31% YOY! I'm pretty happy about the growth I'm seeing now but over time the growth will be slower as my portfolio grows and my additions will have less impact.

March Purchases
  • Philip Morris (PM) - 14 shares @ $79.50
  • Piedmont Natural Gas (PNY) - 30 shares @ $36.30
March Dividend Increases
  • Lorillard (LO) - From .615 to .66 ( a 7.3% increase )
  • Avista (AVA) - From .318 to .33 ( a 3.7% increase )
  • Reality Income (O) - From .189 to .19 ( a .52% increase )
March Dividend Income
  • Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) - $11.90
  • Chevron (CVX) -  $57.78
  • Lorillard (LO) - $18.48
  • Exxon (XOM) - $17.94
  • Unilever (UL) - $18.22
  • Realty Income (O) - $18.90
  • Avista (AVA) - $19.14
  • McDonalds (MCD) - $29.75

  1. Nice increase from last quarter and YoY growth! It's awesome seeing how your dividend income steadily increases on your graph. I'm a visual guy and the up to the right trend is very appealing!

    Cheers!

    1. I think were in the same boat there, seeing things in chart or graph form really helps me interpret information easier. You got it, up and to the right is where it's at, gotta keep that quarterly trend line moving!

  2. Captain,

Great growth! Looks like you had all 3 items: Dividends, Dividend increases and capital infusion = all 3 cards used in order to play the game. Are you reinvesting the dividends? Great job, can't wait until you cross $300 in a month!

    1. Hey Lanny, I am reinvesting the dividends but not automatically. Each month I selectively use the funds to make a purchase. I think it's better to selectively buy undervalued companies rather than reinvesting automatically in my holdings that may be fair or overvalued.

One day I'll have some pretty hefty dividend totals like your near $800 month last month. Good job by the way! The $300 a month mark is going to be something I'd like to see this year hopefully. That would be fantastic!

  3. Nice increases both QoQ and YoY! That's awesome. I bet you cross the $300 mark on this payout sometime this year. Keep up the good work! I really like that PM purchase.

    1. It is nice to see results like this so quickly. Faster growth means more money to reinvest each month. I don't think $300 is out of the question, I think I can do it, well see how things go. Thanks for stopping by PIP

  4. Great month Captain. My dividends also crossed $200 mark for March and looking forward to a similar month in April. I also purchased PM in March in addition to NOV and few others. Keep it going.

    1. Good to see were on the same page with PM. I still have my reservations about PM in the long term but I think it's fantastic to hold for now. Greats on passing the $200 mark also, it looks like were pretty close in portfolio value as well.

  5. Another consistent, great month. I've come to expect nothing less! The chart continues to look fantastic. If that chart does not get people excited about this style of investing, I do not know what will.

    Keep up the great work!
